TWO FREE BRAND NEW STORIES FROM CANDY JAR

Candy Jar is pleased to announce two free-for-download short stories to kick off 2022. These are Sweaty Flow and The Gray Lady of Martyr’s House.

Sweaty Flow is written by Iain Mclaughlin, who has recently contributed a story to the upcoming UNIT anthology Operation Wildcat (due to be released in the New Year). Combining comedy, hijinks and adventure, this short story finds Lethbridge-Stewart and Doris staying in a Brighton hotel run by Mr Sinclair, probably the worst hotelier in the world.

Candy Jar is also reissuing a special edition of Lethbridge-Stewart: Mind of Stone, featuring a brand new story.

The other freebie is a Lucy Wilson ghost story The Gray Lady of Martyr’s House by Chris Lynch. Chris previously penned last year’s free story A Little Lucy Christmas, as well as the Lucy Wilson books Curse of the Mirror Clowns and Attack of the Quarks. On top of this he was author of critically acclaimed Lethbridge-Stewart novel The George Kostinen Mystery.

LW 2021 Xmas

The Gray Lady of Martyr’s House is a ghoulish short story that finds Lucy and Hobo trapped in a haunted house during the Christmas holidays. Chris says: “Who doesn’t love a ghost story at Christmas? I certainly do. My story has a spooky old house, a creepy housekeeper, a library with a very unusual selection of books, and at least one talking animal. So, on the day I put the Christmas tree up, I started writing this eerie tale. If you like classic ‘70s cartoons, M.R. James or Hammer Horror, I hope this creepy concoction hits the right tone.”

For Doctor Who fans that are unaware of Lucy Wilson, she is the granddaughter of the iconic Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, one of Doctor Who’s longest running characters. “The Brigadier”, as he is known to fans, was played by the late Nicholas Courtney. After the Brigadier’s death, Lucy Wilson assumes the mantle of her grandfather with the help of her best friend Hobo.

Head of Publishing at Candy Jar, Shaun Russell, says:

“We always try to give something back at Christmas time. Our readers are incredibly supportive and I hope everyone enjoys these stories as we head into 2022.”
