John Bishop has bid farewell to Doctor Who after wrapping up on his last day of filming, reflecting on his ‘brilliant’ experiences on the show.

The comedian and actor is set to star alongside the departing Jodie Whittaker as Dan, the Time Lord’s new companion, in the upcoming 13th series of the sci-fi series.

John, 54, has kept details of his role close to his chest so far – despite what the BBC say – but he had some encouraging words for fans as he left the set for the final time.

Posting a video on social media, he told his followers: ‘Well, that’s a wrap. That’s the last day on Doctor Who completed.

‘[It’s been] nearly a year of my life, and I wasn’t expecting to do it at all. It’s been absolutely brilliant. I wouldn’t have swapped it for anything.’

Speaking about his experiences behind the scenes, John added: ‘I know you haven’t seen it yet, but honestly it’s been amazing. Everyone’s been great.’

Finally, he joked:

‘I’m so grateful to them, and I’ve also got loads of great material from it.’

Doctor Who fans will have to wait patiently to see John in action, with the release date for the upcoming episodes yet to be revealed.

What we do know, though, is that some seriously big changes are expected after the 13th series.

Doctor Who herself Jodie Whittaker and current showrunner Chris Chibnall are both leaving the show after three series, with Jodie’s successor yet to be announced.
