Series 9 Casting News

David Schofield has been signed up to appear in the next series of Doctor Who.

Schofield is best known for playing King Alined in the BBC fantasy drama series Merlin. Other TV appearances include roles inFootballers’ Wives, Holby City, Jekyll & Hyde and, most recently, as Police Sergeant Foley in Hugo Blick’s The Shadow Line for BBC Two. Big Screen appearances include roles in An American Werewolf In London, The Last of the Mohicans, Anna Karenina and Gladiator as well as playing as Mr. Mercer in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Doctor Who Magazine reveals that Schofield will appear in episodes five and six of the new series, currently being filmed in Cardiff.

As reported last month, the episodes also feature Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams as well as comic Rufus Hound. The BBC have released a video of Hound at the script read through.

Showrunner Steven Moffat hinted to DWM that the role played by Williams is particularly significant saying she would “challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways”.

Doctor Who series 9: Rufus Hound's character is called...

The comedian Rufus Hound reveals who he is playing a behind the scenes video from the read-through for The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived, starring Game of Thrones actor Maisie Williams

It’s fair to say that Rufus House is rather excited to appear in series 9 of Doctor Who – “completely bloody chuffed to bits,” in fact.
The comedian features in the latest behind-the-scenes video from two-parter The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived, both starring Game of Thrones actor Maisie Williams. The clip gives a glimpse of the read-through for the episodes, with Hound himself announcing that he’s playing a character called Sam Swift, which doesn’t mean an awful lot, really. Maybe he can run really fast? Speaking of acting alongside Peter Capaldi and Williams, Hound said that, “I had to make sure I played it cool, because inside I was not. I’m trying to be a professional, rather than a boy wanting to run around squeeing!”
